Peony ITOH Lunar Glow is a rare and exquisite variety that embodies tenderness and elegance in every petal. It belongs to the famous ITOH group of hybrids between tree peonies and herbaceous peonies. This variety has inherited luxurious long-lasting blooms, strong, upright stems, high resistance to adverse conditions, and unmatched decorative qualities.

The flowers are large, up to 20 cm in diameter, semi-double or double, with soft, wavy petals. Their delicate light yellow color, gradually turning to creamy lemon or almost white shades towards the edges, resembles the glow of moonlight — hence the name of the variety. The center of the flower is decorated with golden stamens, giving it a warm, sunny accent. The bush forms a dense, neat shape with strong shoots that do not bend even under the weight of large inflorescences or after rain. Lunar Glow looks great in both solo and group plantings. It is ideal for flower beds, mixed borders, formal flower gardens, and floral arrangements in landscape design. It also holds up well in cut form, adding elegance and freshness to bouquets. The variety is unpretentious, withstands frosts down to -30°C, and does not require frequent division or complex care.

How to Plant?

Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs

  • Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
  • Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
  • Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
  • Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
  • Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
  • Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
  • Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
  • As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
  • After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
