What exactly do I receive when I order a peony?

A dormant bare-root peony division with 3–5 eyes (growth buds) and healthy storage roots, checked by hand before shipping and packed in breathable packaging with planting instructions. Tree peonies are supplied as young woody plants. Our sizes & quality.

When do you ship peony roots?

We ship dormant bare roots during the planting seasons in autumn and spring, when peonies establish best. You can order all year round; see our shipping schedule for the current dates. Shipping schedule.

Will my peony flower in the first year?

Peonies take time to settle. A 3–5 eye root builds a strong plant in its first year and usually flowers from the 2nd or 3rd year, then every year for decades.

How deep should I plant a peony root?

Plant herbaceous and Itoh peonies with the eyes 2–5 cm below the soil surface, in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Planting too deep is the most common reason a peony does not flower. Plant tree peonies at the depth they grew in the nursery. Planting and care.

What is the difference between herbaceous, Itoh and tree peonies?

Herbaceous peonies die back in winter and return every spring. Tree peonies are woody shrubs whose stems stay above ground. Which peony suits your garden?

Herbaceous peonies are the classic garden peonies that die back in winter and return every spring. Itoh peonies combine large flowers with strong stems that rarely need support, and include almost all true yellow peonies. Tree peonies are woody shrubs with very large flowers.
