A terry variety. Milk-flowered, medium-early peony. A herbaceous perennial. One of the oldest peonies that still wins hearts today! And all thanks to its long flowering and beautiful fragrance. Long since established, in 1888 (two years after the Avalanche). The originator: Crousse. This classic heirloom has been popular for over a hundred years, but it's a very inexpensive peony; It's one of the best cut garden flowers out there.

This peony attracts attention due to its huge, table-sized blooms. Its flowers are very fragrant. They are solitary, swaggered, ruffled and bomb-shaped. A really good shape and a reliable plant! The flowers consist of petals, with no stamens or pistils (or they are hidden among the petals). They are huge and very similar to chrysanthemums. The petals are silvery pink and shiny. The lower petals are large and fairly broad. They are arranged in 1-2 rows horizontally or slightly bent down. All the other petals are narrow, arranged around the centre and form what is known as a "bomb". The flower size is 15-17 cm in diameter. The flower stems are sturdy. Each of the flower stalks produces three or more flowers. The bush is neat, but can fall apart under the weight of the flowers. Therefore heavy buds need to be supported by a standard ring-shaped support. The leaves appear burgundy in spring and then turn a rich green. They are double ternate, pointed and look great throughout the season. This variety is frost hardy (can withstand temperature drops as low as -40 °C) and drought tolerant. Adult height of the plant is 80-90 cm and its width is approximately 50 cm.

The flower size is 15-17 cm in diameter.

A fully grown plant is 80-90 cm tall.

Approximately 50 cm wide.

Resistant to drought.

How to Plant?

Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs

  • Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
  • Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
  • Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
  • Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
  • Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
  • Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
  • Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
  • As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
  • After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
