A garden decoration like the Nick Shaylor peony will delight you with its appearance, its resistance to disease, its unpretentiousness and its fragrance.
The peony is renowned for its vigorous growth and lush buds with minimal care. It gets along well with other plants and can be both the addition to a garden composition and its main figure. This tall shrub with ripping dark green foliage will also look great alone.
Nick Shaylor's flowering time is late so the plant first grows densely overgrown with glossy leaves and only begins to form round buds in June. The flowers open unhurriedly, with a sweet fragrance and a long blooming time. Its round, white-pink petals, which diminish in size towards the stamen, form a delicate ball-shaped bud.
The abundant flowering and slender stems make it necessary to support and garter the shrub. Otherwise the plant does not need any attention. Only occasional fertilisation at the root and regular, moderate watering during the warmer months is recommended.

Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs
- Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
- Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
- Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
- Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
- Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
- Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
- Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
- As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
- After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
