Paeonia Miss America, a celebrated multiple award-winner from the American Peony Society—boasting two Gold Medals and an Award of Landscape Merit—is a true embodiment of star-quality glamour, introduced in 1936 by the visionary breeders Mann and van Steen. This herbaceous peony enchants with its large, semi-double flowers, measuring 7-8 inches across, that emerge from soft, blush-pink buds and unfurl dramatically into pristine, cup-shaped snow-white blossoms, evoking the pure elegance of a beauty queen's gown under stage lights. At the heart of each bloom lies a radiant boss of golden-yellow stamens, delicately sprinkled with additional white petaloids that add a playful, feathery contrast, creating a luminous, layered effect that dances in the sunlight. The flowers release a delightfully sweet and rich fragrance, with notes of honey and fresh linen, that wafts gently through the garden, drawing pollinators and admirers alike, and lingering long enough to perfume an entire border. This prolific bloomer produces an explosive profusion of flowers in midseason, each one a flawless showcase of refined poise and exuberant charm, making it an irresistible choice for those who crave a touch of vintage Hollywood allure in their outdoor oasis.
Paeonia Miss America combines its show-stopping aesthetics with the steadfast reliability that has earned it generations of loyal gardeners. Its robust, upright stems, reaching 85-100 cm, offer exceptional support for the substantial blooms, holding them aloft without staking even through humid summers, heavy rains, or gusty winds, ensuring a pristine display that shines in hot, challenging climates like those in USDA zones 4-9. Thriving in full sun to partial shade with fertile, well-drained soils enriched with organic matter, this variety demands consistent moisture during establishment but proves remarkably drought-tolerant and disease-resistant once mature, with its thick, glossy dark green foliage forming a lush, rounded mound that provides elegant structure throughout the season and turns to subtle bronze tones in fall. Ideal for dramatic mixed borders, as the star of long-lasting bouquets that endure over a week in vases, or as a focal point in patriotic or formal gardens, Paeonia Miss America infuses spaces with a sense of triumphant celebration and effortless sophistication, creating an atmosphere of joyful serenity wherever it takes center stage.

Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs
- Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
- Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
- Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
- Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
- Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
- Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
- Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
- As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
- After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
