A compact, late-flowering white peony whose name means “immaculate”: pure white, densely double flowers in June, introduced by Van der Valk in 1953.
Why gardeners love it
- Densely double flowers of 10–15 cm in pure white with slightly wavy petals, sometimes with a creamy glow in the centre.
- Late: flowers in June, extending the peony season after most varieties.
- Fragrant and long-lasting when cut – popular with florists.
- Compact at 55–65 cm, with erect stems that rarely need support.
Where to plant
Full sun or partial shade, in moist but well-drained soil. Plant about 3 per m². Ideal for smaller gardens, the front of a border and large containers; beautiful as a single plant or in groups.
Good to know
Delivered as a dormant bare root with 3–5 eyes; plant with the eyes 3–5 cm below the surface. Usually flowers from the 2nd–3rd year, then every year for decades. For more late varieties, read how to choose peonies for late bloom.

Will it flower in the first year?
Peonies take time to settle. A 3–5 eye root builds a strong plant in its first year and usually flowers from the 2nd or 3rd year, then every year for decades. If your peony has not grown or flowered although you followed our planting instructions, our 100% flowering guarantee applies: we replace it or refund you.

Guide and tips for planting peony roots
- Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
- Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the peony root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
- Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
- Place the root in the hole with the eyes (small buds) facing up. For herbaceous and Itoh peonies, the eyes should be 2–5 centimeters below the soil surface; plant tree peonies at the depth they grew in the nursery.
- Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the root.
- Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
- Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
- As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
- After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
