The herbaceous interspecific peony hybrid Henry Boxtus was obtained by breeders in the USA in 1955. It is no less popular today than it was in its early years on the market.
Appearance
The peony is distinguished by the deep red colour of its buds with a slight mauve streaking of the individual petals. The inflorescence holds its shape for a very long time without falling apart. At its centre all petals are tightly pressed together, forming a bud cone, while the outer ones are only slightly bent back, forming a tight fan. The pleasant, faint scent and the fact that the colour of the buds does not change over time or fade in the sun will be an added bonus when planting.

Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs
- Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
- Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
- Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
- Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
- Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
- Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
- Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
- As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
- After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
