Peony Coral Charm, an award-winning herbaceous hybrid introduced in 1964 by Samuel E. Wissing, is a radiant masterpiece celebrated for its vibrant color and graceful form, earning the American Peony Society Gold Medal for its outstanding qualities. Its large, semi-double flowers, spanning 6–8 inches across, unfurl from deep coral buds into a striking coral-peach hue, gradually fading to soft pink and creamy ivory, creating a mesmerizing color shift reminiscent of a tropical sunset. The bowl-shaped blooms, with loosely ruffled petals surrounding a cluster of golden-yellow stamens, exude a mild, sweet fragrance with hints of citrus, perfuming the air and attracting pollinators. With multiple blooms per stem, Coral Charm delivers a vibrant early-season display lasting 2–3 weeks, making it a favorite for gardeners seeking bold yet elegant beauty in borders, bouquets, or romantic landscapes.
This variety is as practical as it is stunning, combining vivid aesthetics with robust performance. Its strong, upright stems, reaching 80–90 cm, support the substantial blooms through rain or wind without staking, ensuring a pristine presentation in USDA zones 3–8. Thriving in full sun to light shade with fertile, well-drained soil, Coral Charm establishes readily with moderate watering and becomes drought-tolerant and pest-resistant once mature, promising decades of reliable beauty. The glossy, dark green foliage forms a bushy mound up to 80–90 cm wide, remaining attractive through summer and transitioning to subtle reddish-bronze tones in autumn for year-round appeal. Ideal for mixed borders, as a long-lasting cut flower with a 7–10 day vase life, or as a vibrant accent in modern or cottage gardens, Peony Coral Charm infuses spaces with radiant warmth and timeless sophistication.

Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs
- Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
- Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
- Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
- Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
- Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
- Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
- Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
- As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
- After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
