The anemone-shaped hybrid herbaceous peony, Soft Salmon Saucier, is a brilliant bloomer as early as mid-May, filling the spring garden with lush pink and salmon colours and a pleasant fragrance. Introduced in the USA in 1981, it has been a boon to amateur florists.
Appearance
The bright yellow centre of its swollen staminodes is the jewel in the open bud and the remaining pink stamens in the very centre complete this idyllic palette and shape. Flowering lasts for several weeks, aided by numerous lateral buds.
Height of the plant: 80 cm;
flower diameter: 17 cm;
flowering period: May;
flower colour: salmon-coloured, pink, yellow centre.
When planting the Soft Salmon Saucer seedling, it should be in a sunny, wind-protected location. The shrub will grow well in fertile soil with an alkaline reaction. The planting hole should be planted with a complex fertiliser, so that regular watering will be sufficient for several seasons.

Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs
- Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
- Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
- Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
- Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
- Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
- Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
- Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
- Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
- As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
- After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
