Paeonia Sarah Bernhardt is an iconic variety named after the legendary French actress, embodying the same grace and allure that made its namesake a star. This peony captivates with its enormous, fully double flowers, which unfurl in layers of soft, blush-pink petals with delicate, ruffled edges. The blooms, often kissed with subtle creamy undertones, exude a gentle, sweet fragrance that lingers in the air, reminiscent of a blooming Parisian garden in early summer. Each flower is a work of art, its lush, voluminous form evoking the romance of vintage lace or the opulence of a grand ballroom. The harmonious interplay of light pink hues and velvety texture makes Sarah Bernhardt a standout, whether showcased in a bouquet or as the centerpiece of a garden display.

Beyond its aesthetic splendor, Paeonia Sarah Bernhardt is a gardener’s dream for its resilience and ease of care. The plant’s sturdy, upright stems provide unwavering support for its heavy, extravagant blooms, ensuring they remain pristine even after rain or wind. This variety thrives in a range of conditions, from sunny to partially shaded settings, and its robust nature makes it resistant to pests and diseases, promising years of reliable beauty. Perfect for mixed borders, elegant floral arrangements, or as a focal point in a romantic cottage garden, Sarah Bernhardt brings a sense of timeless charm and effortless grandeur, enveloping any space in an atmosphere of calm and enchantment.

How to Plant?

Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs

  • Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
  • Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
  • Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
  • Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
  • Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
  • Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
  • Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
  • Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
  • As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
  • After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
