Common Questions
How to plant peonies?
Peonies should be planted in autumn or early spring. Position the crown (the "eyes") no more than 3–5 cm below the soil surface. Space them 60–90 cm apart to allow for airflow and mature growth. Avoid planting too deep — this is the most common reason peonies don’t bloom.
How to grow peonies?
Peonies thrive in full sun, well-drained soil, and benefit from minimal disturbance once established. They need patience — newly planted peonies may take 2–3 years to reach full blooming potential. Regular watering in dry periods, light feeding in spring, and good air circulation will help them thrive for decades
When do peonies bloom?
Peonies typically bloom from late spring to early summer, depending on the variety and your climate zone. In most regions, flowering peaks between May and June. Some early-blooming types may flower in late April, while late-bloomers can extend the show into July.
When to cut back peonies?
Peonies should be cut back in the fall, after the foliage has yellowed or been killed by frost — usually around October. This helps prevent disease and ensures a clean start in spring. Cut stems down to ground level and dispose of any debris to keep the planting area healthy.
